Developing an international consensus statement on inclusion health (health equity) nursing
The London Network of Nurses and Midwives (LNNM) have recently partnered with The Queen’s Institute of Community Nursing (QICN) and The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) to foster networking and partnership between nurses working in inclusion health or ‘health equity’ roles around the world.
Conversations initially commenced at the Pathway conference in 2024, but this recently resulted in 4 meetings being held on Mon 10th and Tues 11th March 2025 involving over 50 nurses from across 8 countries.
This was led by a core group who met at the QICN offices. Nurses who attended were involved in Mentimeter polls, discussed key questions, and considered what attributes essential elements of the inclusion health nursing role are.
A presentation was subsequently made at a WHO Europe Webinar on 19th March summarising the conversations.
The group has now created a Call to Action on Health Equity Nursing, and is looking for endorsements and support from individuals and organisations (see below).
The group is also planning to write a journal article articulating the importance of the role later this year, as well as planning a further meeting for October 2025.
The core group of nurses meets once a month and now includes nurses from 10 countries: England, Wales, Scotland, Republic of Ireland, Canada, USA, Australia, Finland, Italy, and Chile and includes 3 LNNM nurses.
The core members include:
- Prof Jane Currie (Australia)
- Prof Yvonne Parry (Australia)
- Prof Abram Oudshoorn (Canada)
- Asst Clinical Prof Steven Rolfe (Canada)

During the meetings, participants were asked which role title they most identified with. ‘Health Equity’ nursing came out top globally.

Nurses were also asked what they thought the benefits of meeting again in the future could be.
